- We will also begin learning about graphs and how to do graphing.

We are continuing to work on Unit 3.

- This week we will be wrapping up lesson 7 and moving on to lessons 8 and 9. We are working on compare problems at this point and will be reviewing both compare problems and part-whole problems.

We are continuing our work on Unit 3.

- We will be working on lessons 5 and 6 this week. We are focusing on Iconic models, or visual/drawn models, for part-whole problems.

**January 20-24:**

We are continuing on with Unit 3 in math.

- We will be starting to work on lesson 3 in Unit 3, which is more practice with part-whole situations and drawing models to match the part-whole situations we are given.
- This will give students more practice in drawing and working with story models, which is a new type of bar model that the students haven't worked with yet.
- Students will also be learning how to write their own story problems for part-whole problems in lesson 4 in addition to being able to model and solve part-whole problems.

**We will be starting Unit 3 in math this week.****In unit 3 we are focusing on skip counting, part-whole situations, iconic models, symbolic models, and comparison situations.****Last week we started working on skip counting, we will wrap up skip counting on Monday. Skip counting is an incredibly important skill for students to have and we practice this daily during our Math Calendar time! This skill is also essential as the students have to be able to skip count by various amount to one thousand by the end of second grade! *This is something that can easily be practiced at home as well!*****After we finish skip counting we will start on part-whole situations. Part-whole situations, looks at two varying amounts against a whole. For example, the total amount of students in second grade and comparing how many are girls and how many are boys.*****Please note that as we are getting further in our units in math the amounts are going to become larger and the students are going to start working with amounts in the upper hundred to prepare them for third grade!***
